At South Malling we recognise that individuals are unique and that the school has a mission to help each pupil to fulfil their potential in all aspects of their development: physically, academically, socially, morally and spiritually. We want all pupils to seek to engage in learning in a safe, welcoming Christian ethos. All members of our school community are valued and respected, so that everyone can have a positive attitude to themselves, others and life.
Church schools begin from the belief that 'every child is loved by God’ Justin Cantuar (Valuing all God’s children guidance for CofE schools 2014) and therefore ‘The core purpose of any Church school is to maximise the learning potential of every pupil within the love of God’ SIAMS 2012.
Our school’s Christian character contributes significantly to the academic achievement, personal development and wellbeing of all learners. Although we are a Church school, we are inclusive to all members of the community we serve. Our aim is that pupils from all faiths and those without a faith feel safe and happy, secure in the knowledge that their beliefs are respected and valued.
South Malling follows the agreed East Sussex RE syllabus, which provokes challenging questions about what it means to be human, the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, issues of right and wrong, the nature of reality and beliefs about God. Throughout their time with us, we foster pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the major religious beliefs, concepts, teachings, practices and forms of expression, as well as of the influence of religion on individuals, families, communities and cultures.
We are part of the Diocese of Chichester and have strong links with Trinity Church, Lewes, who help deliver our programme of collective worship and provide pastoral support through Transforming Lives for Good coaches.
